Re: NOTICE OF PROTOCOL FOR FIBT ATHLETES ADVISORY COMMITTEE ELECTION
Dear Sirs,
Pursuant to the Amendment to the Articles of Association adopted at the 2005 FIBT Congress, the Athletes Advisory Committee [AAC] is restructured to follow the IOC Model. The new Article 11.5, states:
An FIBT Athletes’ Advisory Committee shall be constituted; the majority of whose members shall be elected by athletes participating in the World Cup Circuit. The election shall be held on the occasion of the World Cup finale preceding the Olympic Winter Games in accordance with regulations adopted by the FIBT Executive Board, and communicated to the National Federations not later than six months prior to the World Cup finale preceding the Olympic Games at which such election is to be held.
All regulations and procedures of the FIBT Athletes’ Advisory Committee shall be adopted by the FIBT Executive Board after consulting with the FIBT Athletes’ Advisory Committee.
Therefore, the FIBT Executive sets forth the following:
1. The AAC will be a three (3) member Committee with one (1) Representative elected by the Bobsleigh Athletes (male and female), one (1) Representative elected by the Skeleton Athletes (male and female), and one (1) Representative appointed by the FIBT Executive Board;
2. Candidates for the elected positions of Athletes Representatives must be nominated by their own National Federation;
3. The deadline for submission of the candidates’ names nominated by the National Federation is January 1, 2006. The nominations are to be submitted to the FIBT Secretary General;
4. The qualification for an Athlete to be nominated by a National Federation is the participation by the Athlete in either the World Championship or the Olympic Games within four (4) years preceding the Election;
5. In order to be an eligible voter for the Election of the Athletes Advisory Representative to the AAC, an athlete must have competed in a World Cup Race during the 2005-2006 Season;
6. Ballots for the Election containing all the names of the nominated Athletes will be distributed to the athletes at the site of the second to last World Cup Race and the election will be conducted at the site of the World Cup finale.
All member National Federations are requested to post this Notice and distribute it to athletes for their information and are requested to nominate candidates for the Athletes Advisory Committee by the January 1, 2006 deadline.
